FILLERS - JUVÉDERM® & RESTYLANE®
- The JUVÉDERM® collection of fillers is made from hyaluronic acid (HA). What’s interesting about HA is that it’s a natural substance in the skin that delivers nutrients, helps the skin retain moisture and softness, and adds volume. Each product in the JUVÉDERM® collection of fillers is made from a modified form of HA. Different formulations are approved to either lift cheeks, smooth parentheses lines, smooth vertical lip lines or plump the lips. The results are subtle and long lasting.
- Restylane® is a FDA-approved dermal filler made of a biodegradable, non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA). Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in all living organisms and provides volume and fullness to the skin. Restylane is a gel of hyaluronic acid generated by Streptococcus species of bacteria. With full treatment, you can see lasting results for up to 18 months with Restylane, up to 12 months in the cheeks and up to 6 months in facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, with Restylane Lyft; 6 months with Restylane Silk; and up to 12 months in the facial wrinkles and folds (such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines) with Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne.

WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR SKIN WITH AGE?
IT’S A PART OF LIFE — OUR SKIN CHANGES AS WE AGE. IT BECOMES THINNER, LOSES FAT, AND NO LONGER LOOKS AS PLUMP AND SMOOTH AS IT ONCE DID. FACIAL AGING ACTUALLY BEGINS IN YOUR 20S, WHEN SKIN FIRMNESS BEGINS TO DECREASE AS A RESULT OF BOTH INTERNAL (GENETICS AND NATURAL AGING) AND EXTERNAL (SUN EXPOSURE, SMOKING, POLLUTION, SLEEPING POSITIONS, ETC.) FACTORS.
- Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps provide fullness and elasticity.
- Hyaluronic acid diminishes as we age, causing skin to lose volume while increasing the chances for wrinkles and folds to appear.
- With minimal downtime and no surgery, products in the Restylane family are used to:
+ provide natural-looking results by smoothing away facial wrinkles and folds and adding volume to lips (Restylane)
+ provide subtle lip enhancement and smoothing the lines around them (Restylane Slik)
+ add lift and volume to the cheeks and facial wrinkles and folds (Restylane Lyft)
+ provide natural-looking results to laugh lines with flexibility that allows you to maintain your natural expressions (Restylane Refyne & Restylane Defyne)
Your aesthetic healthcare provider will take your medical history and provide a facial analysis. Be prepared to discuss your aesthetic areas of concern. This is not a surgical treatment. Actual treatment with JUVÉDERM® injectable gels can take 15 minutes to 60 minutes, depending on which area of your face is being treated.
JUVÉDERM® injectable gels labeled with “XC” contain pain-reducing lidocaine to help manage pain or discomfort during the injection. You may also ask your aesthetic healthcare provider about a topical numbing cream or ice to help further minimize discomfort.

Avoid taking Aspirin, Non-steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS) such as Motrin for 5 days prior to procedure.
Vitamin E, Fish Oil, Ginko Biloba, St Johns Wart, Ginseng, and Garlic 7-10 days prior to the procedure. These drugs and herbs may cause excessive bleeding or bruising.
Eat at least 1 cup of fresh pineapple or pineapple juice for 3 days prior to appointment. (the enzyme it contains can help prevent bruising and swelling)
Arnica Montana (found at any health food store) as directed (usually 5 tablets under the tongue 3 times a day) will also help prevent bruising and swelling and is highly recommended.
A few simple guidelines both pre and post-treatment can make a difference between a good result and a fantastic one.
– Avoid excessive heat such as saunas, hot showers, the hot sun or cooking over a hot stove. This may cause the blood vessels to dilate and cause more bleeding and bruising.
– Avoid strenuous exercise after the procedure. This may raise your blood pressure and pulse causing more bruising and swelling.
– Avoid direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time. Wear sun block to protect your skin. Sunlight may cause permanent discoloration after bruising.
– Avoid drinking alcohol for 24 hours after treatment. Alcohol may cause the blood vessels to dilate and cause more bruising.
– If lips are treated avoid straw drinking immediately after your treatment.
– No massages of the area treated or with face in a massage cradle for 2 weeks after treatment.
– Avoid taking Advil, Vitamin E, Ginger, Ginko, Bilboa, Ginseng, and Garlic for 2 weeks after the procedure since this may increase the risk of bruising. You may shower and do most other regular daily activities.
– You may apply Make-up after the procedure.
– You may apply cold compresses to the treatment sites to reduce swelling and bruising.
– We recommend Arnica Montana pills or gel to prevent bruising.
Note that any bumps or marks from the extremely small needle sticks will go away within a few hours. If you do develop a bruise it will resolve like any other bruise. There is occasionally some mild pain, swelling, itching, or redness at the site of injection similar to most other injections. Redness may last for 1-2 days, rarely longer.
